Buckie Pays Tribute on 80th Anniversary of VE Day

The Buckie branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland held a ceremony on Wednesday, 8th May 2025, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day.

Wreath Laid in Honour of the Fallen

At noon, a special wreath-laying took place at the Buckie War Memorial in Cluny Square. The wreath was laid by Councillor Sonya Warren, representing the local community. She was accompanied by a proud contingent of veterans, who stood in solemn remembrance of all those who served and sacrificed during the Second World War.

Community Gathering and Celebration

Following the ceremony, attendees were welcomed at the Royal British Legion Buckie on the High Street for light refreshments and a buffet, continuing the tradition of community spirit and remembrance. The event, free and open to everyone, provided an opportunity for residents to come together, share stories, and raise a glass in tribute.

A Time to Remember

This 80th anniversary of VE Day marks a significant milestone, reflecting on the end of World War II in Europe in 1945. Events like this ensure that the legacy and sacrifices of the wartime generation are never forgotten.
